While they would go on to enjoy commercial elevation and much bigger hair, let’s think on The Psychedelic Furs thusly: lean, hungry and, quite frankly, thrilling. UK indie-kids swooned to Richard Butler’s rakish rasp and collective pulsing, throbbing post-punk drone. By the time US college radio got it, the game was sadly up.

A classic - having heard the single "We Love You", I have fond memories of a friend who lived in a bedsit, but had a great stereo, playing this album - the opening minute or so with the fiddling, scratch sounds before the band kicks in gave me a visceral thrill then, and still resonates now. Subsequent albums still good, but veering more to conventional, stadium rock, although some stand out tunes. Oh how success spoils!

I saw them in KC 1981--the B brothers were fighting, boys really.
seemed a little Roxy music-ish at the time, with that sax player.
Good they are back on tour--that r.Butler's art work sucks.
